South Lake Tahoe hugs the lake shore and the state line with low-key, low-rise and laid-back Calafornia buildings in contrast to the neon lights, big name shows and the 24-hour glitz and excitement of the Neveda casinos.
Behind all lies the enormous ski area of Heavenly as well as shuttle buses to the many ski resorts around Lake Tahoe including Legendary Squaw Valley. The town is nestled against the lake, whilst the ski area is a short cable car ride up into the mountains. The view from the top overlooking Lake Tahoe is stunning!
