The Village…. Affordable and beautiful with some great pubs, coffee bars, shops and restaurants. St Johann will steal your heart. The town is big enough to offer traditional foods and true village people (it has a school, churches, a whiskey mill, horse racing trotting and a sports centre). More of a small town than a village. The view of the Wilderkaiser mountain is stunning!
The Skiing….On the north facing slopes of the Kitzbuheler Horn, (The snow lasts longer) the skiing in early and late season can be icy. Not a large local ski area, but for the social skier a large number of mountain restaurants and some fine pubs up there! The greater area ski pass, linked by bus,is huge comprising the Schneewinkl/Skiweld pass. But its not practical to get there. The whole area is low altitude, but don’t judge by statistics – it’s a fine area to ski. Below the tree line & pretty.
Austria
Our Opinion:
A traditional, charming Tirolean town with a better snow record than its low altitude would suggest. Affordable and fun.
